Thumbs up Went to the Range today.

My father and I went to the range for a bit of hand gun shooting. Brought along my H&Ks and decided we would rent a gun there as well. I have been looking at 1911s, fondled them but never been able to shoot one. Figured the $10 is nothing when I can check out if its worth my next purchase or not.

They gave me a Kimber Custom II which obviously needed a thorough cleaning. Had a few FTF but that was expected as I could see the layers of grime packed in the gun. Anyway, did some dry firing with it then put 100 rounds through it. After the first 50 I realized I REALLY need to buy a 1911 for carry.

9 Yards (I say 9 as it was just shy of the 10 yard marker) 50 rounds Magtech .45. 1 shot per second, I can never bring myself to just slow fire like I do with rifles.

My H&Ks performed flawlessly as usual but I think a bushing 4.25 1911 is in order. Thinking of picking up a Colt as I don't have the cash at 22 to buy a Les. The XSE is a bushing correct? I can probably CC a fullsize without an issue but a bit smaller will make my life easier.

At 50 I'm so pitiful that I wouldn't pick up a Les even with the cash. Pick up the Colt or any of several other excellent 1911 clones and save the $. You'll never look back.

I was a Glock nut for many years. A buddy handed me his Colt Govt 1911 to try and I haven't looked back. My Taurus 1911 has around 3000 rounds and not a single failure of the gun. Nice deal for only $500 or so.. Kimber Custom II is also sweet, but a little more cash... If you buy one 1911, you will buy more. So, start in the price range you can afford.. Then keep moving up...

Actually, for the price, you REALLY need to check out a Springfield Armory Champion. I absolutely love both of mine.

Also heard amazing things on the Taurus 1911, if I do get one, likely what I will go with.
