Do you care what kind of finish your carry gun is? Is it mere preference or does it matter for some tactical reason?

Black for me. Really in case of inadvertent exposure. A flash of silver would catch the light or catch the eye, the black may be missed with a black belt
I really dont think it matters much. Some will say that a stainless gun is more visable... yeah, it might be. The flash and report are going to get more attention than the finish.
I tend to prefer dark matte finished pistols, I cant tell you why though. Its just what I like.

Don't really give it much thought. However, looking at my gun collection it is apparent that I have a preference to dark matte finish weapons as well.

I've pondered on that myself actually.
I think sandblasted Stainless...or chemically darkened Stainless is pretty much the ideal for firearms if there is such a thing as anything being ideal in the firearm world.
Blasted Stainless is not very light reflective at all.
Certainly polished Hot Bluing would reflect much more light than polished Stainless ---well you might just as well call that a mirror.

I have a stainless 1911 that has a Rogard finish. It cuts the flash and sort of darkens the finish of the stainless steel. That being said, my EDC is blued steel.
A black gun against my white skin sticks out like a sore thumb. If my light colored shirt gets wet, a black gun sticks out like a sore thumb.A flash of silver would catch the light or catch the eye, the black may be missed with a black belt
When my silver gun leaves the holster the muzzle flash sticks out like a sore thumb. When I clean my silver gun, you gessed it, the powder sticks out like a sore thumb.
Buy the color you want, I prefer silver but either will be fine.
I want a gun with a chameleon finish... that would be cool.

I have an affinity for brushed stainless with contrasting matt finish....1 Kimber special edition eclipse pro...1 Kimber Eclipse Ultra. There's just something about the look that says, "Buy me!!!" I am weak.

I think a shiny gun goes against the idea of "concealed" carry. I like black or blued best. SS would be good for marine environments or similar high humidity areas of use, but for where I'm at, black is my choice.
