Need some opinions......
I have a S&W 642 that I carry IWB. I don't have a pocket holster for it. I also have a Ruger SP101. That being said, I'm really really wanting another 1911. Not just any 1911, I was a Springfield Armory Lightweight Champion Operator. Problem is, I don't have enough money for it right now. Now, I'm not really enamored by the 642. I'm very happy with my SP101.
I'm thinking I could sell my 642 and holster to help fund my SA LW Champ Operator. Then get a good IWB holster for my SP101 and a good IWB for the new 1911.
What do you think? What is a 642 (w/ less than 150 rounds through it) worth?(don't even think about making me an offer, I'm not selling over the internet, this is not a sales ad!!!)

New prices on Gunbroker - $385 to $450
I just went to Gunbroker.com and looked at the "buy it now" prices on factory new 642s, sold by dealers. The range was $385 to $450.
I would speculate that a slightly used 642 would be worth a little less than that, if sold directly to the new owner. The buyer will also avoid sales tax on a new gun, which is significant in some places.

why don't you like the 642? i ask because:
1. i like sw revolvers generally, and
2. i just bought stock in sw (SWHC).
look, you are not talking about a gun so much as my retirement!

Maybe $300 or so IMO. I think you should just save up for the 1911 though...I've never sold a gun and I don't have any regrets. I'd hate to start and then get some...

I sold mine for $320 and thought I did OK.
Pending on your region between $300-$350 would be a fair price in my book.

Gunshops locally sell new for $420-440 and used around $300-320. As others have stated, think twice about selling the 642, it serves it's purpose. Maybe better holding off and saving up for the 1911?

I too hate the thought of selling any gun.
The 642 is very versatile and can be carried easily IWB, pocket or ankle. I carry my 442 in the pocket most days and about 10% of the time on the ankle. With that said, I carry two guns Off-Duty and three On-Duty.
If it were me I would carry the Ruger IWB and the 642 in the pocket, or on the ankle. I would sell niether gun to finance another one. I would just save longer for the 1911 style gun. Having been in two "Armed Encounters" and having carried 1911's in the past I have to say, I'm not a fan of the 1911 for carry, but that's food for another thread.

If you don't mind my asking, I would also be interested in what it is about the 642 that you don't like? I have one, and love it. but, maybe I am missing something, and don't realize it.
Thanks.

I have three main issues and all can be fixed somewhat, but I'm just too lazy or too frustrated to do it.
1. Internal lock, easily disabled
2. trigger pull, I could get a spring kit and dry fire the heck out of it.
3. grip screw, I never understood why they put a blued grip screw on a ccw gun, mines rusty, I need to get a stainless one.
Thanks for the advise. I've decided to keep my 642. It does its job very very well. I'll do the above and fix what I think are imperfections and maybe I'll learn to not only like this gun but actually love it.
thanks for the advice.

New in box at buds gun shop in paris ky is $385.64, and Bud's usually has the lowest prices around this area. So figure 340-350 if its 99%

My rule is never sell a gun to buy another gun. Save up for it another way, like not buying coffee or lunch everyday.
Training means learning the rules. Experience means learning the exceptions.
