I for one like the Glock 17 for home, and carry the G19 or Walther PPKs when headed to town. I agree with others on for HD you don’t need a pocket gun, instead you need a larger platform for stability.

The reason I say that is; some of the time your HD weapon of choice will be call upon is when you’re awoken from a deep sleep.

I also agree with your choice of a 9 mm. Higher capacity, light recoil, and yet with the right ammo, capable of incapacitating a THUG with one shot to the chest 91 percent of the time.

As to which HD weapon you should choice, let the fun begin and go shopping, and buy the quality weapon that feels best in your hand.

I am a big Sig fan, but if the logistics are an issue I would (as much as I dislike them) say go with the Block... I mean Glock

Money is not an factor: SIG P226, great gun without being too expensive.
Money is a factor: Glock 17 or 19, just great guns - reliable, nice capacity.

These are the best reliable guns. My SIG P226 and Glock 19 are the both loaded and ready as my primary home defense guns.

I feel most comfortable with my Ruger P95. Of course, maybe there is a better handgun in the opinion of others. I believe that the best handgun is the one that you can shoot most skillfully.

If it is strictly home defense and it must be 9mm, I would say G17. If you would like to carry it concealed as well, I would say G19.

    My choice(s) would be:

    Glock 17
    Glock 19
    Sig 228/9
    Sig 226
    EAA Witness

Maybe a couple more, but there you go.

For home defense, a Glock 19 or Glock 17 (depending on your hand size) with a laser/light combo and good night sights. The Glock laser/light works very well.

I have a Glock 17 and a Glock 34 both in this configuration.
