Use a pocket holster or not for a J-frame?

Hey all, for those of you who pocket carry a j-frame, I was curious if you use a pocket holster. I assume the holster would prevent you from printing, but it does not seem like the j-frame prints much any way in loose clothing. Also, with a pretty firm DA trigger there does not seem like much of an accidental risk of firing the gun, that a pocket holster would prevent.
So I was seeking input from you all to see what the consensus may be!

    Thanks,
    tytl

    Always use a holster.

My pocket holster keeps my snubbie in the same place in my pocket, as well as covers the trigger

I use a holster. Tried it without once, went to take it out and the muzzle had rotated and was pointing straight up my arm.

Also, even though I don't put anything else in that pocket, the trigger is covered until I get a good grip on it.

EDIT: sorry, pgrass101 said the same thing.

Keeping it in a pocket holster will keep the gun in the proper place. It will also keep foreign objects from finding their way into the action or barrel. And, of course, no matter how safe it seems to be, something in the trigger guard could lead to a negligent discharge. You can pick up a cheap Uncle Mike's pocket holster that will solve the problem and not break the bank.

They're so cheap you might as well. There's a guy name Steve on the EE over at ar15.com that makes some very nice quality leather j-frame pocket holsters for $25-$30 shipped. He can make them to your specs. I have one of his, and one from Galco, and actually prefer his. Whatever you decide just get a holster. It will help keep junk off/out of your gun, and it covers the trigger to seriously reduce the chance of an AD/ND.

If interested in the holsters I mentioned check out: http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=89&t=490755

I use an Uncle Mike's (size 3) to pocket carry my J-frame. It's big enough to cover most of the gun, yet small enough that the entire grip sticks out for easy grabbing. Uncle Mikes are around $20.

Me too. It's flimsy and flat but it works just fine. I cut up a credit card and put it in the bottom to reinforce the edge, been carrying with it daily for a couple years. They keep lint out of the gun and keep the grip in the same spot for a consistent draw.

Get ur car keys in the same pocket with ur j frame and u pull the keys outta ur pocket BOOM

Then there is the issue of lint that'll jam every crevice, hole, and slot on your gun. I have a friend who claims that his pocket revo once failed because of lint stuck into some spot.

Finally there is the issue of printing. The holster is going to make the printing seem less like a gun and more like a generic pocket 'o stuff.

So yeah - holster for sure!

Anyone who lets their poor little J frame get scratched and beaten up by a set of car keys in the same pocket should have their J frame taken away by Gun Protective Services, and be charged with Gun Neglect, a misdemeanor.

The charge is a felony if the snub is a classic pre-lock J frame or a Colt.

Thanks all, good advice and I believe the holster is the way to go. Really like the snubby, 442 airweight.

Would not even consider carrying any gun anyway without a holster. The pocket holster keep the trigger covered, prevents printing and keeps the gun upright. Don't put anything else in the pocket with the gun...
