I'd reccomend a .22 cal for a strictly target gun. They make some incredibly accurate ones and shooting is dirt cheap. A 9 is cool if thats what you want, but I don't recall having seen many intended for target use. Maybe get something full size so it's comfortable to shoot and has a nice long sight radius? Happy hunting.

I kinda feel the same way. Not sure if a 9mm is a great gun for "target" shooting. I have a Beretta 92FS that I love for shooting accuracy in the backyard. Think a full size weapon will do a great job for you if you really want that nine. If not, go for a .22 Ruger or something.

Springfield Armory 5" 1911 in 9mm
Any of the longer barrel, heavier, higher quality 9mm models would make a good range and target gun, and would double for home defense. The posters above have named some of them already. My list would include:
1. Beretta 92
2. CZ 75
3. Browning Hi Power
4. Sig P226
5. S&W 5906
I use a Sig P226 for this role:

You might also want to consider the Glock 34. It has the longer barrel, 3.5 lb. connector, extended slide stop and mag release. And it will also shoot the 33round G18 magazine for those days at the range.![]()
Glock 34 is ideal for target practice.
If you already have a Glock 17, the Glock 34 takes the same G17 magazines.
What guns do you carry? You might be able to get a 22cal conversion for it. I plan on getting one for my 1911 and possibly G30.
for a target gun, i would have to suggest a 5" 1911 w/ a conversion kit. this way you have a good target gun in both a .45 and .22.
if you really want a 9mm, you can also get a 5" 1911 in a 9mm.
Kimber has 22LR pistols (now in production) for $650-ish according to impactguns.com. I wish more companies did the Colt Ace thing and included a 22LR upper and mag with the purchase of a .45 1911.
Get a CZ 75 and a kadet kit for it, that way you have both a full size 9mm and a .22 cal to shoot.
STI Trojan in 9mm..fun, fun, fun...
I know, I know, you are smarter than me..just ask you..
The most accurate 9mm ever made is a Sig P210....
.....it's almost scary accurate!
