    Customizing a 1911

I've got a jeweler friend of mine who is willing to engrave the slide of my NIB Springfield loaded with my girlfriend's name. He's also in the process of encrusting the grips with diamonds.

Would this be a decent substitute for an engagement ring?

I think Lima needs to weigh in on this one. And JD.

My girlfriend (now wife) would have kissed me & hugged me & told me she loved it - and then said she would say "yes" once she saw a ring...

    Good luck with that!

Personally, I don't think there's a "substitute" for an engagement ring. Sounds like a nice gift, of course, but of the women I know, it wouldn't be a ring.

Now, if I were single, that gun sure would be a substitute - I don't care about an engagement ring.

    Question Hmmmm...................

You might be farther ahead to have the name engraved on the grips.

What if she doesn't like it?

My wife says, "Definitely not." My mother in laughed out loud and then after they both thought about it for a minute, they decided that it might be possible for a rare type of girl. The kind of girl it would be appropriate for would be a very "masculine girl" "butch" "masculine woman" - they had a hard time coming up with the proper term for this.

I think you should give it to her with custom grips and slip a diamond ring over the hammer

I dont think you should engrave her name on the gun... 'cause once you try and pass that off instead of a ring, you're going to need both a new girl and gun.

Yes it is my fiancee didnt want a ring she wanted a Rock River AR-15 and a Sig/Sauer P220 instead so she got it. Instead of a wedding ring she wants a Wilson CQB. so she's getting that. for her birthday she wanted reloading equipment.

That would ruin the re-sale value.

(Of the pistol, not the girlfriend).

Hopefully, or your in deep do-do if the project is already coming along. My wife sticks out her tongue to this thought. She still doesn't wear a ring, but has 2 Sigs. Go figure.

Good thinking on getting the name on the grips and not the slide.

I think I'll just have some not-too-corny phrase about togetherness or something like that engraved on the slide.
