Loaded in the nightstand and unloaded shotgun in the corner (5 slugs on stock). My two German shepherds can buy me some time, I'm sure. No kids.

It sleeps in the night stand right beside the bed. No problem with kids, only have the 4 legged kind and they know better than to play with dad's toys!!

I keep my Glock 19 near me whichever horizontal surface I happen to fall asleep on, in my bedroom its in my headboard's cupboard on my side. Out in my living room I jeep it on the floor between the end table and recliner, tucked under the end table.

I have no kids, yet. Well...except the wife and 2 cats.

12 ga. Side-by-side in the closet off the foot of the bed, unloaded. Two shells are directly above on the shelf where I also have my inherited J22. I have a real creeky house and I and my wife are light sleepers. If a BG should intrude: My wife covers the stiars with the shotgun whilst I gather up the kiddos and get them in the bedroom. Then baracade the door and call the Police. I'm literally 30 seconds from the station. I have 4 kids ages 4 and under (One is adopted). When they get a little older I plan on getting a good bedside safe for me and training for them.
In God we trust, everyone else keep your hands where I can see them.

G20 on nightstand right by me....less than 2 ft away. G22 in nightstand drawer, and G29 in walk in closet. I, too, defend the hallway at the top of stairs because of my 2 yr old in his room....

Looking for a shotgun for HD also...

I have three little girls 5, 6 & 8 and I take medicine to help me sleep. Therefore, I keep both of my guns on the top of a cabinet 3 ft away and I lock my bedroom door while sleeping. Idea is that I have to wake up enough before I get gun in hand. Also my dog sleeps on the floor next to my bed and alerts us to any unusual noises.

My in-laws still think I am crazy for even having a gun so any time any of them are over, they all get put away.(can't have anything tempting me when the in-laws are around) ;-)
Not a bad idea, just wondering where you put the in laws when they come over??!!

    Nearby...

The location ultimately depends where I end up falling asleep, but always nearby.

Right now, on the nightstand; may reconsider based on some of these ideas.

No safes, but the 15-yr old knows what he's doing, and the other smaller ones (daughter especially) doesn't want to get anywhere near them. (Oh yeah, that'll have to change someday . . .)

    Good topic, silly pickle.
