Cocking serrations on the front of a slide are my pet peeve. Purely from an asthetic standpoint.............

I'd have to have at least an ambidex safety as I'm a lefty, but other than that I think it's a fine handgun to pack. I have some reservations about the capacity, but I wouldn't feel undergunned.

Would you carry/Do you carry, an unmodified Government style 1911?
If it's proven itself reliable, I have and will.

On occation I carry my series 70 basically stock. It's like my dress gun.
It was reliable enough for our soldiers to carry while in the trenches with nazis. I think it's good enough for me.

I daily carry the same Kimber Custom II, and shoot competition with it. Did change the sights though; TFO's.

Started with Colt 1911 from 1918, upgraded to AF modified , then upgraded to Kimber. The Colt and AF modified have been retired to collection. If I had to revert back to old style I would carry my Norinco 1911A1, the sights are bad but it works just fine. My problem now is mainly my old eyes, but I have been carrying and shooting a 1911 style pistol for so many years muscle memory helps the eyes.

I agree on the aesthetics, but I also don't like the idea of putting my hand that close to the muzzle when my other hand is on the grip!

I kind of "cheat".
I carry a Taurus PT1911, which comes from the factory with all the modifications that people used to spend $1000+ for on a Colt...

By stock I take this to mean a GI 1911. If I had to yes. I require my 1911s to have the following for carry purposes:
Ed Brown beavertail, thumb safety, and slide lock.
C&S Ultralight internals; 3# pull no creep or overtravel
Night sights: XS Big Dot or Heinie Straight 8
The beavertail is mandatory for comfort under rapid fire. The thumb safety I use is the wide one and is great for gloved hands. The C&S trigger kit cleans up the trigger. You can work on GI internals so much and it will never equal a C&S kit.
Night sights are mandatory as shootings might happen in low light. They are also easier to see in the daytime.

I carried a Springfield GI for well over a year stock, and after that I carried it with new grips for about six months. Personally I have no problem with them, and to be honest I still carry it occasionally now when my XD isn't feasible.

back in the early 80's i carried a out of the box a colt combat commander. did nothing to the gun, just carried it. and it still the same today. so if need be, i would still carry it today without any changes.
