    1911 Question Please....

New guy here, looking to purchase my first 1911. Could you tell me your opinion on your top three favorite makers (Ex; S&W, Taurus, Colt etc.) Also, do most of you 1911 owners have it in .45 ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

There's a thread you might want to read before you consider Kimber..

Oh, and since you're in MA you might want to list the brands/types the goons haven't 'approved' for sale. Could be useful, aren't there a few you can't get?

My Kimber 1911's are in .45...
Of the many choices, I like Kimber, but others will give varying opinions...I'd be up to the gun shop and 'touching' them all to make the right choice.

With a few more $$$ I hope to acquire either a Wilson, or a Brown...

All depends on how much you want to pay........

Nighthawk makes some very expensive ones ($2000-$3000)
Wilson slightly cheaper but still expensive ($1800-$3000)
    Les Baer ($1300-$2200)
    Kimber ($650- $1300)
    Springfield Armory ($600-$1500)
    S&W Taurus ($650-800)
    Rock Island ($450-$600)

there are a bunch of others as well..............

As to calibers....most are .45, but there are a bunch of others available:
    10mm
    9mm
    .40 S&W
    .38Super
    9mmx23mm

My top three/four would be Wilson, Baer, Brown and Nighthawk. Hard to beat them unless full house custom and then we get interesting as with that the top three change right away.

Don't know what you want to spend so it's hard to send you in a direction. I know for myself that I will no longer buy anything less than a Springfield TRS grade 1911 anymore. Maybe a loaded because I have had good luck with the two I have depending on what I am looking for and what I want to do with it but Kimber has really disappointed me over the last several years and they are now hard to recommend any longer. Also, any 1911 I purchase in the future will be of the 5" design. 1911's are shooters for me anymore, the onlyone I carry and that is rarely is an Ultra CDP in .40S&W as I know it is 100%. A steel 1911 even in commander size is of no interest to carry any longer they are to heavy for my tastes all day.

    1911 Question Please

Seeing as you live in Mass. you need to buy from an approved list.
A good place to start might be.
    The Best Western Trade Center.

I you go 495 South 2nd exit after mass. pike exit. Go down about 1/2 mile. It is set back off of the road a way. Well signed. Get there early as the good deals go fast.

Colt commander; XD; Para. Just to be different I stress the custom 1911 offer they have at Springfield right now. It is a great deal.

    +1 GoAwayFarm and TiCarry.

I always think its funny when someone considers Kimber side by side with full custom guns (no offense gen3). It really depends on what you want - if you want to spend $600 bucks, get a Taurus. If you want the most beautiful, accurate, reliable, trustworthy, beloved family heirloom....get ready to spend a lot of money. And there is a lot in between the two. (Below would be Rock Island etc..)

Thankx all for the info I appreciate it. I guess I 'd be willing to spend up to $1,200.00 for a 1911. I also didn't know that some of these brands were not approved for my great state....I'm not sure how but I'll have to find out which brands are accepted here.
    Thanks again.

I was fondling some new para's both standard and LDA, I found the backstraps where like rasps against my palm, not well thought out.

I bought a S&W 1911PD last month. It only took me three weeks to go buy a second, a 1911SC!

All of my 1911's are .45ACP

Well, you still haven't said what this is for so going on just the $1,200.00 price range and assuming this is a shooter I'd go with/look into either a Colt Gold Cup or a Springfield TRS.

i am assuming you are not looking for an expensive one (wilson and up)
i would go for a kimber. if not, then a springfield
i personally have the kimber ultra aegis. its the 3" 9mm.
i love it. my next one will be a 5" .45
either a kimber or wilson, depending on how much $ i have
