XD Compact or G29 for ultimate CCW?

I'm looking to purchase my first handgun of 2008. Hey I made it to January 8th! Actually I've been thinking about it since early November. Why the two chosen? 1. Capacity 2. high testostrone ammo 3. Well, I like them both.

I shoot alot of Glock but haven't liked the recoil from the G30 so I pulled it from my list & replaced with the 10mm version. Oddly the G29 was comfortable and didnt feel any harder recoil than my G23.

I like XD and have always liked the 45 compact. A 4" barrel with short grip and the option to have the full 13 round grip. I have shot the 4" .40 but never the .45 through XD so there's a little question there.

The 10mm is rare and a bit of a boutique load. That's a negative. But the incredible ballistics ofsets that minus. The .45 is the tried & true American round. It's easy to get but getting expensive.

So- opinions are subjective- but let me know what you think.

Currently in my arsenal I have:
    Glock 19
    Glock 23
    Springfield EMP
    Les Baer Thunder Ranch
    G-23, 27, 35 (all .40)
    G-29 10mm
    H&K 45c
    Les Baer Thunder Ranch 5"

I vote for the XD45 Compact !! Since I got mine, all my other handguns have been safequeens.
You can carry the 10 rnd mag for concealed, and the 13 rnd for duty (or range).
I think you will be verry happy with it - I know I am!!!

I'm not a fan of the XD line at all, and I cant say 10mm is a good choice simply because of the issues you have already talked about. With that said, I'd rather have an XD with plenty of ammo, than a Glock with a spotty ammo supply.

I think that the 10 MM is the ultimate in a semi auto handgun.

For one, we all know that handguns are a compromise when it comes to "stopping power". With the 10MM this is less of an issue than with any other practical sized pistol.

Notice I said "practical". Yes I know all about the various .44mags, .45 mags, and other rounds that are more powerful than the 10, but they need BIG heavy guns to shoot them and they aren't worth a hoot for concealed carry.

The 10 beats the 9mm,40and ,45 hands down and has some serious capacity.

What is there not to like? Ive been seriously considering getting a Glock20, but I'm just not a worshiper of Glocks.

If Sig would come out with one, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Yeah, ammo is expensive. Shoot reloads to play with and buy some serious stuff for carry. In the big scheme of things, you ammo is the cheapest part of the equation....escpecially if you do end up using it up close and personal on some thug.
I would rather stand against the cannons of the wicked than against the prayers of the righteous.

Ditto "Hotguns"...10mm is the ultimate defensive round. Flatter trajectory, better penetration...especially useful in winter when more clothing layers are covering BG.

I disagree about it being a boutique load...go to Double Tap...the greatest practice and full power ammo!

I haven't carried .45 or .40 since aquiring the g29...why would I handicap myself to a less effective tool?

I've never "liked" my glocks so much as appreciated how they, as tools, perform their function nearly flawlessly. Never could hold a SIG comfortably.

I carried my G36 in .45 ACP for years untill I discovered the G29, which has not left my belt for the last 10 months. This weapon benefits greatly by the addition of a Pierce finger extention. This addition in no way afects the concealability either.

It's a breeze to carry in my Crossbreed supertuck and add'l mags in pocket or belt.

...if not...be prepared to meet Mr.10mm, .45, .40 or any one of their little brothers.

I like the XD better than glock. I have an XD in .40 and I love it, so I say go with the XD.

I have the XD.45 compact for my carry gun and love it. Shoots as well as anything I have ever owned hits whatever I point it at and is rock solid reliable. Prefer it over the Glock, to be fair they had years of R&D to over come Glocks short falls, so of course it is a better gun IMO. If you like 1911's you will love the XD.

XD - (I have two of them).

SC XD-9 Bitone. Zero Malfunctions after thousands of rounds, very accurate.

    Any XD will do!
