What pistol does Wilson Combat use?

Unlike other "custom" makers, I heard Wilson actually doesn't make they're own pistol. They use someone else's and just swap out parts.

Is this true, and anyone know who they use. I have been all over the Wilson site and can't find anything.

Also, who makes their own 1911 type pistols from scratch?

Ed Brown, Les Baer, STI, Caspain, etc...

At the very most, Wilson might get the receivers and slides from some place and then fit them together while building the entire firearm. They don't just swap out parts.

Now if you are talking about shotguns, I believe they start with Remington 870 receivers and build their Scatterguns that way.

    Right from the WC site

We started with the strongest frames and slides in the industry, CNC machined from a hammer-forged block of American steel. We pair that with a super accurate 5.5” heavy stainless match barrel, our legendary crisp trigger, and 30 years of proven 1911 know-how. The result is an extraordinarily accurate, powerful, and reliable weapon

But who manufactures those strongest frames? They never claim to, not that I don't love my stainless Protector.

Bill Wilson makes his own frames and Slides, just as Les Baer, Ed Brown, STI and others. They all pretty much use the same type of CNC milling machines to accomplish this task.

If you have $100,000 you can go into the frame/slide making business too.

I'm pretty sure they build theirs from the ground up. One of these days, I'd like to stop in and tour their facility since it's right here in the home state and a couple hours drive. Berryville, Arkansas!

Les Bear frames and slides are his specs from a foundry by Chicago as of few years ago. For little time Ed Brown also used his frames. CNC is only as good as the man who runs it and the specs that he maintains. Bear heat treats first then machines the part, thats how he gets a tite fit that runs.

I read years ago that they used some Latin American pistol, the Star maybe?

Maybe now they use they're own.
