Sounds like a Glock 26 or 19 to me. I just bought a 26 for BUG carry and off duty carry. I love it and I shoot so well with it I am thinking about switching my main duty weapon from a Sig 220 to a Glock 21 or 34 or 17.
Yeah I like Glocks, wanna fight about it!

Though I do not carry a 9MM I can easily recommend the Springfield XD series and Glock.

I personally went with the XD because I have short thumbs and could never us the Glock without changing my method of fire. I also prefer my guns to be bone stock for carry, I feel that if the manufacturer/designer wanted it that way it would be on the gun. I could have gotten a Glock and had the frame modded but figured that I was better off witha stocker.

The XD series has something for everyone. If you wanted you could easily go with the subcompact and carry mid or full size mags.

I personally carry a Full size 5" barrelled XD .45 with a compact frame. Fite me well and gives me 11 on hand with 26 more ready in the wings using the full sized mags.

Have fun with the hunt. I always recommend for folks to go to the store or a gun show and touch every gun they can get their hands on. So many folks fall for the sales pitch and end up with something they don't like.

I am an advocate of trying and researching for as long as it takes before purchase. I have often spent months pondering before purchasing.

We have a gunshow on feb 23 and 24 in dallas and I plan on going and looking and holding a lot of different guns.I should be able to find one,but so far I think I have it down to a glock 19.I already have a kahr pm9 for most around cary but I'm looking for one that is a little bigger and more fun to shoot and has a lot bigger capacity.I just sold a beautiful ultra carry but the recoil was such that it was taking me too long to get back on targwet so I believe I will move back down to a 9mm. sj

How about the S&W M&P Compact 9mm? Don't own one, but I've shot the 9mm S&W at my range and like it a lot. 3.5" barrel, 21.4oz empty, and for a safe-action type trigger, I find it very smooth and accurate to fire. MSRP is $640, so I figure you should be able to find one in your price range.

Springfield EMP - small, light, 9mm, reliable (from what I've read), single action. But it's not a polymer frame.

    That's sure what I'd get for a 9mm, but I'm a 1911 fan :-p

With Glock's reputation, I think that's a safe bet too. I don't like the idea of no external safety and Cond.1 carry though, but that's just me.

    Peace,
    Pete Zaria.

The XD9 4" is only 28 oz. but if that's an absolute limit, the M&P or the HK USP Compact both fit the weight limit but the USP is probably more than $600. I've fired the XD, the G19, and the M&P and they're all sweet guns. Good luck and have fun.

Springfield XD9 or Sig's New P250, both are fine guns.
