Hi all,
I currently carry a Glock 19 IWB at about 1:30. I am considering looking for a 1911 to use as a CCW as well. I'm curious if anyone carries their 1911 appendix style. Any issues or recommendations (pro or con) to carrying a 1911 this way as opposed to other types of guns? Thanks!

How do you sit?

Actually, sitting with my G19 at 1:30 is very easy and comfortable. You just need to be a bit careful. The part that's harder to do is bend over at the waist to pick someone up off the ground. But I've found simply going down on one knee (strong-side knee) overcomes this.
I've also carried at 3:00, which I admit is much more comfortable, but it prints a bit more on me, and is more difficult to draw from than appendix carry.

I haven't carried a 1911 in appendix position IWB, but have carried a Kahr MK9 and a Walther PPK in that position. It is my impression that appendix carry works best with handguns having a short barrel and grip. The short barrel will prevent the muzzle from digging into your thigh when you sit, and the short grip will prevent the grip end from sticking out from your body and printing on your cover garment.
So if I were going to carry a 1911 that way, I think I would use one with an Officer's size grip and a 3 or 3.5 inch barrel. I have a Colt Defender that would be my first choice.
I have a Colt Defender. The holster maker adjusted the cant for me so it lies in more of a cross draw cant - that way the grip lays almost parallel to my belt and the barrel angles slightly across my lower abdomen (instead of pointing directly downward). This way it doesn't poke me in the ribs or jab me in the groin when I sit down. It is easily accessible from a sitting position.
My pants are all flat front and it is completely concealed.

I got it at D.M. Bullard Leather - even with the custom request, it was delivered to me within a week. David sent immediate replies to my email inquiry and followed up with at least 3 more within that same week to make sure I was getting what I wanted.
