DAO Colt New Agent @ SHOT Show...

Word on the street is that Colt is introducing a DAO-version of the Colt New Agent. Gunblast.com has photos. SHOT Show 2008 - Day 1 (It's not quite 1/4 of the way down on the left-hand side.)

    Cheers,
    Herk

Edited to add: Oh, yeah. Winchester is making Model 70's again, now in South Carolina.

Looks like a bigger, blued version of the Pony Pocketlite that I have. What is it chambered for?

Maybe because some people appreciate Both the 1911 design AND a DA trigger ?

Which, technically, isn't a 1911, as the 1911 is SAO.

Blame it on Sixto - now that is a viable plan.

Watch out, Para Ordnance LDA trigger

It looks like the Para Ordnance LDA trigger, doesn't it?

And I also noticed on the same page a .45 caliber Sig P239, which is a first for that caliber in that gun. It is also DAO, and looks like a direct competitor to the DAO Colt New Agent.

The SIG I would bite on, always loved the 239 versions, the Colt Hmm!!! can't see where it would be a scale up copy of the Pony, thats what the patten fight was over with Khar as I remember,,wonder if its just a rehash of the failed Colt SA/DA of the 80's????

Some agencies allow only DA weapons.

    Pluses:
--I'm happy to seem them broaden their horizons, as it might draw more folks into the fold.
--I'm also glad to see somebody make a grip safety without a protrusion. I have small hands, and a beavertail/duckbill on a 1911 is superfluous (even when the gun has a hammer).

    Minuses:
--If they're going to make a gun with a 3" bbl, I'd like to see them knock 3/8" off the grip a la Terry Tussey and Detonics.

.45 ACP. The New Agent is their 3" (Officer's length grip) 1911 with a trough in the slide for sighting purposes. Supposedly, it's a take on the old Guttersnipe sight. I've never seen one. Some folks swear by it, and some swear at it.

    Hope this helps,
    Herk

I looks like they brought back the double eagle to me , I think they stopped making that in the early 80's

looks like they are going after the para gun. it does not have a safety like the para. and i did not see why para put a safety on a da gun.

    Uh Oh

I predict the gun is doomed. Colt has a history of making half-hearted improvements on their guns rather than coming up with a genuinely new design, and it never works out.

The first hint is the new grip on the DAO Agent, which extends back further than a standard 1911 grip. This is probably to cover the hole in the frame where the safety should be. This means that if the gun isn't a huge success, you'll probably never be able to find replacement grips for it later on.

The same thing happened with the Double Eagle, which used a goofy extended grip to cover the workings of the obsolete Seecamp DA system which Colt chose to use. Try finding grips, or any of the non-standard 1911 parts, for that gun now.

Ugly grip. Strange checkering pattern, and it doesn't even look like it fits properly.

    Just my opinion.

I still want the Colt New Agent in single action.
