I am very drawn to the USP for the very reason that you can get them with the ability to carry cocked & locked. I strongly dislike having two different trigger pulls (DA, then SA) so for me... I want the same trigger pull every time. Hence I like 1911's and guns which give the ability to have consistent trigger pull for every shot. When and if I do buy a USP, I will most definitely carry it C&L, just like a 1911.

I don't see any advantage to not carrying cocked & locked, safety on.
Perfectly safe, yet one flick of the thumb and you are good to go!

Well, the obvious answer is that with the hammer down and safety off you are perfectly safe and ready to go, having eliminated the "one flick of the thumb" portion of the process.

I believe either is fine and depends on you personal preferences. Just train, train and train until you've got the manual of arms down pat. Then train a whole bunch more.
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

Decocked and safety off as well for me. Occasionally I will carry it cocked and locked though.
