    Looking for a 1911 style 9mm compact

Looking for a (great) 1911 style 9mm in a compact (sub commander size) frame. This will either be a BG to my 1911PD or a summer carry; weight, size, and quality are important. Opinions are welcome.... what would you choose and why?

I don't have one, but I would go with the Springfield Armory EMP. I have heard only good things about these. They feel great in the hand too.

Look at Kimber Aegis, or Springfield's EMP. Both are a little steep in price, additional mags might be hard to get and usally cost alot when you do find them.

Based upon the reputation of the company and the warranty I would select the Springfield over the Kimber every day of the week.

    I don't own a 1911 style 9mm, and have no desire to. I do have a Kahr PM9 though if I want a sub-compact 9mm.

    Springfield emp

My vote goes to the springfield emp. Although I dont own a 1911 style gun. I have shot the emp and if I could afford one I would they are great shooters. And they seem to be a really good built gun. The fit and finish are first rate in my book.

ParaOrdance makes a nice little 12rd. package in their Hawg/Lite Hawg.
    Glock 19/FEG/FM HiPowers/Keltec P32 for me. When I can't use my 870,N98 or Marlin .30-30 of course...

Give me a SA over a Kimber any day of the week. Just shot an EMP this past weekend and have it on my must have list of firearms. Seen way too many malfunctions with Kimbers at matches that I would never trust one. Sorry Kimber folks but thats MO.

If I remember correctly the EMP is the only 1911 style 9mm that was designed from the ground up to chamber 9mm. That's enough for me but Springfield does have a better warranty so that's something to consider as well.

No expert here but the EMP looks very nice and has some good reviews. Sort of pricey for a 9mm though. If you have to have a 1911 style gun that seems like a great choice but I'd also consider a Kahr PM9 for a BUG or 'summer wear' type gun. A little bigger but the Glock 19 is a dang nice 9mm also.

Of your choices, in 9mm, I voted for the Springfield...only based on what I've heard...OMO

I've got both the Kimber Ultra Aegis II and the Springfield EMP. I've had the Kimber a lot longer and it required no break in but was great right out of the box. So far with just 150 rounds of FMJ through it the EMP has been working great. Dennis

    finally a qualified reply

I too have been wondering about the Aegis and EMP comparison, but would personally prefer to hear an opinion of someone that actually owns the hardware.

It's funny how many people want to jump on with the mentality of "me too, I hate "manufacturer x" because another inexperienced person told me to"

The local store has an EMP. Just holding it and I fell in love. I do own a Springy 1911 loaded...so for me its as much brand recognition as it was the ergonomics.

The EMP was light weight, thin, and most important to me ( I prefer appendix IWB) the 3" barrel that wont poke me in the junk when I sit in my car the way my full sizer does. I also like the fact that it is 9+1. I would have love to test fire one but the range did not have one to rent.
