Springer Loaded or Kimber Pro CDP

I'm making the leap into the world of 1911 .45's and I've got it narrowed down to 2 guns. Springer Loaded Champion or a Pro CDP II from Kimber. Both have 4" barrels, both have upgraded everything, and both fit me like a glove. So I guess it comes down to reliability. Anybody out there have experience with either one? I plan on bobtailing the gun eventually. Help me out!!

It depends on who's MIM parts you trust more; India's or Brazil's. Personally, I trust the Brazilians more. Gimme the Springer.

    Bobbed champ sounds cool.

Get the springfield, customer service is awesome. No complaints here with my 2- 3" Micro's.

I had the same question a month ago. I went with the loaded champion. I have put about 600 rds through it so mannt double feeds ftf, fte, I lost count. I called springfield great service it is back their now getting fixed. I took a chance on her and am having it beadblasted, bobtailed, the frount strap, serreated, as well as the main spring housing. I am trusting in Springfield to make it right. I love the feel of a 4" all steel 1911 I like the fully supported ramped barrel the sights and ambi safty all for less than a kimber.
That being said I have a kimber stainless II fired ove 10,000 rds with no real problems to speek of.
    Hope this helps.

I recently had a choice to make between Kimber and Springfield.

I selected the Springfield because of the warranty and because my local "pusher" told me he had less problems with Springfields in regards to customers having warranty "issues" after the sale was made.

Kimbers look pretty, but pretty is as pretty does.

I love my Pro CDP II. That said, you will have to deal with the 400 round break-in period. Some have no trouble out of the box. It took 350 rnds to break mine in. I initially had 1 FTFeed every 20 rounds. I think it had to do with the round hitting the aluminum frame ramp (which is anodized aluminum). After 350 rounds the ramp had worn the black anodizing off and it worked great. I also had one failure to return to battery after shooting the first 150 rounds straight at the range - due to a recoil spring problem. Replaced the spring, shot another 150 rounds my next time out and it has been flawless ever since.

    I've had 2 Kimbers, I still have a Springfield.

The warranty is a big bonus on the Springer.

While I do not carry my Springer, if I was down to choosing a Kimber or a Springer, I'd take the Springer hands down.

Prior to deciding on buying a "wonder 9" I was thinking of having a Custom Champ made from Springfield, that way I could get my Champ with the options I liked on the Kimbers.

I really like my Springfield Loaded Champion! But if someone gave me a Kimber I'd shoot it!

    Thanks

Thanks for all the input. For right now I carry a Model 642 and love it but since this may turn into my carry gun I need 100% reliability. Sounds like springer is the way to go.

I'll have to check what the custom shop charges for the bobtail. Maybe they can do it for me.

You are leaning the right way. The Springer Loaded Models are just really nice pistols. You almost think you are getting a quasi-custom gun when you get a Loaded Model.

SA Customer Service has been great for me although I have not had to send mine back for anything. Probably never will.

They quoted me $200 four days ago. I should have it in 4-6 weeks

Rather than spend the money on a 4" Springfield and having it bobbed, why not look at the Dan Wesson Bobtail Commander - great value for the money and IMHO one of the best deals out there in a 1911 (Buds has them for under $900).

BTW - I have one, its my EDC and has never had an issue in 1500+ rounds
