    Colt LW Commander Makeover...

Just wanted to share some pics of my Colt XSE LW Commander that just underwent a much needed makeover. Had some Novak Nightsights installed (green front/yellow rear) to replace those stock one's that keep having the dots fall out. Replaced the stock beavertail with a Wilson Combat High-Ride. Add a set of Alumagrips Tactical Checkered Slim grips. These slim grips really change the dynamics of this gun, much improved. Picked up some 8rd Wilson Elite Tactical Mags. Could not be happier with the final result...

Found a local gunsmith 2 miles down the road. I brought in the items, he charged me $75 for the labor/installation. I ordered up another set of slim Alumagrips for my Kimber Ultra Carry and plan on having him install those also.

    Thumbs up

Sweet!!!. Very nice looking pistol. Have you shot it with the new grips yet. I have small hands and these just might get my thumb right there to the mag release.

Not yet. I also have small hands and these grips feel so much better to me than the stock wood ones. Definitely worth giving a shot.

Slimjim, do Aluma Grips require some sort of special installation? Just curious because I am looking at the same grips when I hopefully get a 1911. Thanks!

Sorry for jumping in, slimjim. Virtually any "slim" grip for a 1911 will need shorter bushings for the grip screws to go into. I've never heard of a slim grip which did not come new with appropriate bushings.

Just order two bushing drivers from Brownells or Midway, one for standard and one for thin grips. Then you'll be able to change away whenever you please. Blue loctite on the bushings, purple on the screws. The grip screws tend to loosen up with AlumaGrips because they can't crush into the material like wood or synthetics. Chris the owner recommends purple loctite. I've used #60 "O" rings under the screws satisfactorily also.

Yep, I ordered the Alumagrips w/ SLIM screws & bushings from Midway. See below for reference:

496046 Swenson Slim Line Grip Screws Hex Head 1911 Blue Package of 4 $7.89

554270 Swenson Slim Line Grip Screw Bushings 1911 Blue Package of 4 $3.49

I'm not sure if Colt stakes their bushings or red loctite's them... but the two 1911's (kimber and para) that I've changed out bushings required a solder iron to heat/break the bond of the original bushings.

Oh, and SlimJim.. nice pistola. I just bought one too!

Very nice looking setup. How's the trigger and action?
