I posted this under "Gun Show find!", but someone suggested I add this to this thread as well. So... here it is: a brand new, absolutely pristine 640-1 I bought in a tremendous deal yesterday at a gun show. I've only dry-fired it, but already the trigger is smooth and will likely be a joy to shoot with when I have time after Xmas.

^^^ Sweet!!!!! Those grips really sets the gun off and they look great.
But for me there's something about the feel of a snubby with the old school skinny wooden grips in my hand that makes a tuning fork go off in my heart. I have a steel model 49 that feels better in my hand than any gun I've ever had.

Anyway, I am not slamming their guns as many people love them and have had great luck with them. As a matter of fact, I have a .454 Raging Bull that has been flawless......but these last 2 have cured me of buying another. But, that is just me.
I am waiting for delivery of a new 642 on Dec 23rd that I bought on Gunbroker the other night and I think that it will be serviceable out of the box without need of a tune-up.....at least I hope so. I have had a Mod 49 j-frame for years that has been shot a lot and has been perfect.

Taurus has a long history of interesting ideas and designs, but very poor execution and follow up. Stick with S&W or Ruger. On the other hand, you might get lucky and get a decent Taurus. I've never been much for gambling myself.
