Before i read that it was nickel, i thought it was polished stainless.. should have trusted my instincts.. hehe. ! Great job on the refurbishing.. looks beautiful.. I have an SP101 that has some scratches.. however, being matt stainless any polishing will show in that area unless i do the whole gun.. not prepared for that kind of work, but would look great.... must be nice to know all that work was rewarded with a stunning carry piece.

Hey everyone
First time poster. I apologize if this has been asked. I've been wading through the forums searching, and this doesn't seem a bad place to ask. I just applied for my CC permit and I'm set on getting a revolver. I want to carry daily, but I also want something that is fun to shoot. I've been looking at .357s with 3-inch barrels like the GP-100. What do you think? I'm not a big guy. Is there anything else that is concealable with good stopping power that is also manageable to shoot?

Ask a question on the internet, and you will get many differing opinions. Here is mine!
A 3" GP100 is a monster to effectively conceal, and in summertime....darn near a joke.
I recently switched back to carrying my S&W 66 snub (2.5" barrel), and while it felt cool to conceal a big ol' blaster of stainless steel...it was much harder than a lightweight snub, or a lightweight Glock subcompact, etc...
Whatever you carry, it will be made much easier with an actual "gun" belt from Beltman, or some other manufacturer that specializes in sturdy leather. Also, a quality holster that is made specifically for the weapon you are carrying.
Concealed carry can get expensive in a hurry, with belts and holsters and weapons....
So, the internet is helpful in that you can peruse the forums for what has and has not worked for others....but ultimately, your own mistakes (or not!) will have to be made, and you own experiences will begin to shape what you can comfortably conceal and carry.
Most often, the guns that are the most fun on the range (heavy and long barreled) are not the best ones for CCW (light and short barreled).Quote:

I joined this club earlier in January with my first wheelgun, a 3" SP101. Aside from painting the front sight orange its bone stock, and I plan to keep it that way. I've put a bunch through it and like the .357 125gr Golden Sabres the best so far. 158gr American Eagle lead flat points were quite the handful, but other than that it's not too much to handle. A box of 110gr Winchester semi-jacketed hollow points didn't seem like much more recoil than my Glock 19 (which is my main carry gun, so far.) I'm comfortable and confident in my Glock, but there is something about this Ruger that makes me want to carry it around despite having 1/3 the capacity. I'm really liking this gun. Going to be nice to have an alternative to the 9mm when I'm trucking around in the deep woods this summer. Thanks for keeping the little wheelgun alive and well; this thread had a lot to do with the purchase.
