My Newly UnButchered FEG Hi Power

Last month a gent sold me a FEG pistol over the internet as LNIB, but shipped it with a totally butchered trigger. After a lot of thinking I decided that rather than dwell on the raw deal I would sieze the opportunity to build a really nice pistol out of it. Well, I finished it yesterday. I installed a new trigger and trigger lever and stoned the sear to get the pull down from about 20 pounds with the butchered trigger to about 5 pounds with the new one....crisp and clean breaking. I also took the hump out of the feed ramp and added a set of new cocobolo grips to it. Then I installed extra power recoil and firing pin springs to help minimize wear from +P ammo. So here is my newly un-butchered FEG PJK 9HP for your approval. :smile:

I really like the unbutchered version better! To the range Friday for proof of the pudding.

Here's my bone std FEG which I got years ago - eventually found myself a BHP Practical but - the FEG is still a nice gun to shoot. My only reservation might be - not punishing it quite as heavily as true BHP - as perhaps metallurgically they are not quite so robust. IMO good value gun tho.

Any trouble getting FEG parts or did you find some BHP parts that worked?

Yessir, I used a mix of BHP parts and C&S parts made for the BHP, which work fine. FEG parts are a problem right now.

I got out to the range to test the FEG today in the midst of 25mph gusting winds giving us fits. The traffic signals were dancing around on their cables and every time I stopped I could feel the wind gusts rocking my little Dodge truck around. So with target stands blowing over and targets blowing off their stands, we nailed them down and did enough shooting to tell that the FEG will be a good, accurate gun, and that the ramp job works well. I put 115 rounds of hot +P JHP's of three different brands through it, even staggerloading them and switching magazines around to try and get it to hiccup, but it didn't miss a lick. Here's a photo of the groups I got. They are 15 yard bench rest groups with Gold Dot 124 grain +P JHP's.

I still need to lighten up the pull a little, but didn't want to do more on that until I fired it a little. That's the next project. She's definitely a keeper.

IMO - easy on +P useage ...... I don't personally rate a BHP platform as +P compatible, at least not in large quantity.
