    SIG p228

OK, went to a gun show today with a buddy who never showed. I walked in and saw a table full of handguns. I browsed them and went on to the rest of the show. Had cash in hand to buy something but did not see anything I could not live without. Then as I left, there it was a NIB p228, NS and two 13 rounders. $699.00. I just gave in and bought it. Was it a deal? I am not a SIG man by nature....but I thought I could not go wrong with a 228, for my first. I even bought a Mitch Rosen Express snap on black holster for 45.00. I'll be looking for a IWB ASAP. I will try to get pictures up. I am still trying to figure out my new camera.

Sixto, I expect to hear from you on this as I consider you the resident p228 expert.

I saw very few of anything at the gunshow in Richmond today. I went looking for defensive ammo, was greatly disappointed. It is the last time I will go to the shows at the raceway. I will limit my gunshows to the Showplace from now on.

By the way goawayfarm, were you wearing your hat today? If so I didn't see you there.

Already told the wife I won't be home until the night of the 11th, going th stay over thursday night and hit the show friday morning. Might even have to swing by Blue Ridge Arsonal. I hate it when things like this happen!! LOL

They was a poor showing of dealers since there was a show in Hampton as well.....(I agree that the Showplace is the better show)

    I almost missed this one...

If its in good shape, then yes, you paid a fair price. The price of the 228's has been climbing higher and higher, they seem to have really jumped this past year. Same thing with the original 228 mags. I've seen NIB 228's pushing 1k... thats crazy IMO.
A lot of the CPO's that are still out there have the night sights, however they are often on their last legs and need to be replaced sooner than later. Some of the later CPO's released are franken guns... nothing wrong with them except they are not worth as much as an original 228.

    Question

If you go to the Sig website, you will notice that they no longer list the P228. The gun seems to have been replaced by the P229 model, which is very similar and available in .40 and .357 Sig, as well as the 9mm.

Are the P228s out of production for good?

Yep, I'll be there...probably on Sunday though. While you're in the area, check out Virginia Arms and Guns and Ammo Warehouse south of Chantilly on 28 in Manassas.

Yes, I believe SIG discontinued them about a year ago.

The P228 is the pick of the Sig liter. In all honesty, it is the only Sig pistol that I like. Regards, Richard

Supposedly the P228 is still being made for special contracts (like the M11) and for non-US sales, but for US sales it has been discontinued and replaced by the P229.
