Maybe when the Kahr P380 comes out the demand will ease up on the LCP making them more readily available.

Some of the most lame, uninformed crap I've ever heard from someone who "should know" has been over a gun shop counter. The only part of that I would believe is "He doesn't have any".
Quonset Hut> Your sentiment matches my experience. Usually, when I ask a question to 3 different guys behind the counter, I'll get 3 different responses - even at the same gun shop. But here, most points seem pretty accurate:
- Kel-Tec did NOT patent their design which is why Ruger was able to copy it. - I'm no expert on patent law, but that's the consensus. The Kel-Tec was based on its predecessor Grendel, neither were patented, Ruger copied the Kel-Tec.
- Ruger made it better and prettier. - Definitely prettier by all accounts. Better? Have to wait on more range reports & personal experiences.
- He has none. - I'll take his word for it.
- They are backordered by 100,000 units. - I dunno.
- He thinks the wait time may be up to a year. - His best guess. Who knows?
- I might be able to get one at a gun auction site but pay a premium. - Yup.
- The street price is about $300, but because of the demand, I might be able to get one on the auction sites for about $350. - Pretty close; gunbroker's completed auctions are from $325 to $430. Add shipping & your FFL's transfer fee.
But I quit asking many questions at the gun shops, for precisely the reason you mentioned. I generally research the internet and take it all with a grain of salt.
One of the local shops here still insists that Taurus has not released the SS PT1911 yet.Originally Posted by DistantHorizon

I may wait to get my wife that SP101 until I can take a look at the LCP.

I saw one for sale at the gun show in Dallas yesterday (Sunday), the price was marked at $389 IIRC. Sunday afternoon and it was still sitting there. I left it sitting there too, and I'll wait however long I need to until the price falls. Right now it's a "supply and demand" deal.....but I can wait it out.
It was interesting to hold it, and it felt pretty much like a p3at. I hope the "reliability" problems have been solved.
Turn the election's in 2014 to a "2A Revolution". It will serve as a 1994 refresher not to "infringe" on our Second Amendment. We know who they are now.........SEND 'EM HOME.
I had heard from my dealer that the LCP's were on hold by Ruger, until an issue is resolved.
The United States Constitution (c)1791. All Rights Reserved.
Until someone takes a few (more than one or two) Ruger LCP to the range and fires 500 plus rounds through them without a malfunction, I don’t see that they have any advantage over a Kel-Tec P3AT.
Sure, Ruger has an excellent name, but I’ve never had a failure, or jam with my second generation Kel-Tec 380. So, long story short, I don’t see what all the hype is all about.
