Just called a gun dealer about the Ruger LCP
I had a lengthy conversation with a local gun dealer about the Ruger LCP. This is what he said.
- Kel-Tec did NOT patent their design which is why Ruger was able to copy it.
- Ruger made it better and prettier.
- He has none.
- They are backordered by 100,000 units.
- He thinks the wait time may be up to a year.
- I might be able to get one at a gun auction site but pay a premium.
- The street price is about $300, but because of the demand, I might be able to get one on the auction sites for about $350.
Now you know more than I do.

I wouldn't pay 500 for a little. 380.

"There's always the Kahr..."
Wow. Looks like they shrunk the PM9. I wonder how much it weighs.

I called my dealer yesterday too. I'll spare you the boring details though. I just wanted to know if my flat of AA was in yet.
A back order of 100k units sounds like a lot, but I bet than more than half of those were a case of "I gotta have its" and will never be picked up making it much easier for the people who really want it and have the funds to get it in a reasonalbe amount of time. I do think the Kahr is going to be the better gun.
My dealer didnt tell me any of the above, its pure speculation and educated guesses on my part

Even if they sell half of them, I think the popularity of the LCP will make Ruger an interesting manufacturer to watch in the future.

It seems Ruger's hit a home run with this one. I would like to see Ruger reliability in something comparable to Kahr's PM9 & Kel-Tec's PF-9.

As of Saturday, my dealer (Green Mountain Guns, in Lakewood, Colorado) had none, had only received two, and had a waiting list that was about 20 people long.
My dealers impression: "It's the same as the kel-tec." You could paint him unimpressed. I'm watching it very closely...especially the range reports.
The facts are indisputable. There is more data supporting the benefits of Conceal Carry than there is supporting global warming. If you choose ignorance, in light of all the evidence, in order to bolster your irrational fear of guns, you are a greater threat to society than any gun owner.

I am desperately waiting, I want one but I am not going to pay a crazy amount for it. $300 is my limit I think......

I handled one at a gun show sat. when I bought my p228. It is a way better finished version of the kel tec. apples to apples i would def. buy the ruger.

I think it will be like anything else...give it 6 months...things will calm down, and they will start showing up...plus...give them a few productions runs to get the bugs worked out...
I ride snowmobiles and I never buy the first year of production for any model....I use the same philosophy for firearms...
I want one, and will own one...but I can wait a few months...esp for the prices described....
