For those who are interested in doing your own patent search on firearms, you can do this yourself free on the government site. You can do the simple search or if you know a little about boolean style searches you can get a lot of information free. You can even view drawings and pictures. Those who use Lexis/Nexis or Westlaw will have a head start on the more sophisticated searches.
The topic of patents came up in regard to the Kel-Tec (CNC Industries) and the new Ruger LCP pistol look alikes. It appears that there are no patents on the Kel-Tec. This is no suprise because over the last 100 years most pistols are mere improvements over earlier versions or improvements on component parts.
