This is a discussion on Help decision needed. within the Defensive Carry Guns forums, part of the Defensive Carry Discussions category; I think I have narrowed it down to the following 1911's Kimber Pro TLE II (lg) Kimber - Continuing The Legacy Or the SW 19111 ...
HK P2000 .40SW
Para Ord Tac 4 .45acp
XD 9 Service
XD 9 SC
Taurus 651 .357 mag
I can't comment on that specific model S&W but I have their standard 5" 1911 and I haven't had a single problem with it so far. I'm sure there will be others who will have better reviews or advice for you.

I'm not pro gun, I'm pro rights. What are you?
Of the two i would pick the one i could get a better deal on .
Make sure you get full value out of today , Do something worthwhile, because what you do today will cost you one day off the rest of your life .

Criminals are looking for victims, not opponents.
a s&w rep told me that smith made the frame and slide for kimber,, that when you buy a kimber, you are buying a smith. that said, i have a 5"cdp with over 3000 trouble-free rounds thru it. they both look real good, one is probably as good as the other.
Two things I like about your question:
1) I get to help someone else spend THEIR $
2) I can recommend Kimber without having to say "It's worth the extra $" !!!
As you can tell from my Forum name I am a fan of the Kimber product line. Very accurate. Very reliable and - from my personal experience - very responsive to service questions.
It doesn't look like you have a bad decision either way. Enjoy!
I wish I had the $ for either of those choices !
However if I did, I would be putting it down on the TLE without a second thought.
Ultimately it is your choice of course.
Can you hear that little voice in your head ? it's saying "Kimber, Kimber, Kimber" !!!
Have fun with whichever you choose.
IMHO a internal extractor is more suitable on a 1911. A external extractor takes away from Brownings original design. Plus they are ugly as sin. Just my .02, Im sure plenty will disagree and thats okay.
Both guns are a great choice. I just rencently picked up a Kimber UC II....LOVE IT. Get ready for the 1911 addiction...
I have two Kimbers...love 'em...but in your case, either should work well for you.
Stay armed...with a weapon of YOUR choice...stay safe!
