Just got my permit day. Took 38 days, not bad...Still deciding on a weapon. I like the bersa 380 cc or a 38 spl.
Just looking for a light small weapon that conceals easy.
Congrats on your permit!
I would recommend an XD sub-compact myself, but there are so many options and so many different variables that I cannot presume that what is right for me is right for you.
I will give the same advice I have seen on this forum 100's of times. Go to the range, try out different pistols until you find the one that you don't want to leave without. You know, the one that just fits...for you.
Most everything else is irrelevant. Get a pistol that's reliable, XD, Glock, Sig, etc...get one you can shoot well, and get one that you can afford to practice.
9mm factory ammo is still affordable. I look at the .45 prices and it makes me cringe.
Good luck on your choice, just remember, a quality belt and a good holster are 100% required. Speaking of which, if you let us know your normal dress/build, we could provide answers that might apply more specifically to your situation.
Be sure to keep us updated on what route you decide to go with.
There are two sides to every issue: one side is right and the other is wrong, but the middle is always evil.
Who is John Galt?
Don't cheap out, it will only cost you more in the long run. I prefer 1911's, but a nice used Glock 19 will do you great and can be had for under $400. Eventually you might gravitate to another platform, but that will hold you over just fine.
Treat me good, I'll treat you better. Treat me bad, I'll treat you worse.
Congrats on the permit.
Ck out S&W M&P series, I'm quite pleased with my M&P 45.
The situation will NEVER BE THE WAY YOU WANT, it WILL BE THE WAY IT IS. You must be FLEXIBLE ENOUGH TO ADAPT and just "DEAL WITH IT".
If you like revolvers, the S&W 642 is a great light and compact carry, with .38 power, which I consider the minimum.
In the semis, I'd go with a Glock 26, my favorite carry.

Recommendations? Yes, go to a range where you can rent some handguns and find the one you enjoy shooting a lot so that you'll be sure to practice a lot!
Then come back here and tell us what it is and we'll help you find a way to carry it!

Congrats on the permit!!! Thats awesome!! i ran into the same thing a little while ago. Like Thumper Just try and go to a range where you can rent guns and see which one you like the best. The one you should get is the one that will really stand out in your mind!!!
Congrats on your new permit. Carry in good health and avoid trouble when you can!
As far as smaller guns, Kel-tecs, Kahrs, Bersa 380 cc and J-frame size guns are good choices.
Medium size guns: MP 9/40 compact, Ruger SP101 3" and XD compacts
Lots of good solutions.

Ahhh, what an awful dream. Ones and zeros everywhere... and I thought I saw a two.
Congrats on the permit...
One can conceal anything, so buy what you really like, not what you find easy to conceal (at first)...OMO
