Mine measured 4 3/8" from the top of the rear sight to the bottom of the six round mag, 4 7/8" with the 7 round, and 5 1/4" with the 8 round.
I love mine, but just can't have it replace my M&P .40 as my main carry gun, so it serves as my BUG (pocket holster) or primary (I use the SmartCarry for deep concealment, or a CrossBreed Supertuck) when I can't conceal the M&P for some reason. But it is always (ok, not literally) with me.
Gun control can be blamed in part for allowing 9/11 to happen.
