    Welcome!!

ps. David, welcome to the Forum. I've learned more my first month on this site than I have in a life time. You will make great friends, get expert advice, and you will spend lots of money. But, oh, what fun you will have in doing it.

I carry a Ruger SP101 simply because of its power, and it fits nicely in the front jeans pocket inside a holster that is little more than just a carrier, with no straps etc. I used to have a Titanium Airweight S&W .38 and I would recommend that, too, as being so light that even if you are wearing outdoor shorts and not jeans or cutoff jeans, it is still so light that it would never be a problem carrying it. Expensive, though.

I would go with a Smith J frame, probably a 642 if you decide on a revolver. It weighs about a pound and will carry about anywhere. That includes your pocket or your ankle. It is absolutely reliable. Sure, its not a target pistol, but if the range requires good sights, then you probably can't legally justify pulling the trigger. And if it were me, I'd get one with Crimson Trace laser grips. That more than solves any sighting problem and those things improve my accuracy a lot.

If you want an automatic, then I suggest the Kahr PM9. It is also pocket size and darn near fool proof. One other thing about either a Kahr or an S&W is resale value. If you decide to trade or sell one in a year or two, I think you will find that they hold their value well. And, of course, they are made in America.

I would go with a KelTec P3AT for deep concealment.
