The Dan Wesson is the most underrated revolver there is....if you have half a brain.
Most people don't.
A guy I knew at work bought a .357 Pistol pack. It came with a 2,4,6 and 8 inch barrel. Even had a belt buckle. Great looking package.
At first he loved the gun and talked about it often. All of a sudden he starts bad mouthing it. He had changed from a 4" to the 8" and said he couldn't hit anything with it. We ended up taking it to the range and he was right. At 25 yards it was all over the place.
So I took it apart. The barrel nut that holds everything together was loose. He barrel gap was way to much. So I showed him how to use the gage that came with it to set up the gap, and tightened the barrel nut.
It shot perfectly after that. It turns out that he had never read the instruction book that came with it, and every time he changed the barrel, he just picked a random measurement to screw the barrel in.
Every now and then, you'll find one at a gun shop for cheap. Its cheap because no one really has much experience with them and they shy away from them...and because of that, the resale value on them may be low. To someone that knows better, it can be quite a bargain.
For years the only competition that the Dan Wesson had on the silhouette circuit was the single shot Thompson Contender, which are very accurate and shoot a multitude of calibers. That was it.
Back in the day of revolvers, I knew several cops that used 4" and even a couple of 6" Dan Wessons. I even sold one of my 6 inchers to a cop that used it on duty until they went to semi autos.
I would rather stand against the cannons of the wicked than against the prayers of the righteous.
