I was under the impression that lead rounds are acceptable to shoot through a barrel with polygonal rifling, as long as you keep it to a minimum and be sure to clean the barrel thoroughly afterward. The thinking being that non-jacketed rounds do cause more build up, but not enough to cause problems with increased pressure or obstruction until you put a significant number of rounds through the pistol before cleaning.
Someone please correct me if I am mistaken, for this is simply second-hand knowledge at best.
I know they say do not shoot lead in a glock barrel, but i have been shooting lead in my G17 for over 2 years and never had a problem,i usually don't shoot over around 100 to 150 at a time and have never felt any difference in recoil from the first round to the 100th round,I clean the barrel really good afterwards,I think the most danger is shooting jacketed after lead IMHO it is not safe due to the jacketed round will not be as soft as lead and if you have a little lead built up could cause over pressure.I'm just going off the top of my head here and i believe i've seen similar types of posts relating to that very issue but if i'm wrong somebody with more knowledge jump in and save me.
