Help Me Choose: Walther PPS vs. SA XD9SC

I think I have finally narrowed my choices for a concealed gun chambered in 9mm. Here's how I see it:

    PROS for XD9SC
*Plenty of support (chat boards w/experience, accessories, etc.)
    *Grip safety (I'm a fan)
    *Costs about 30% less
    *Springfield custom work available
*Available to shoot before I buy (rentals are plentiful)
*"Fuller" grip (feels a bit better in my hands)

    PROS for PPS
    *Nearly a half-inch narrower than XD9SC (1.0" vs. 1.4" width)
*Lighter than XD9SC (19 oz. vs. 21 oz.)
*Easy recoil (as per range reports)

Now, have at it you armchair quarterbacks! I want the wisdom of crowds.

That's kind of my thought- I want to shoot a gun before I buy it, though I know I could turn around and sell a 99%-new PPS if I had to.

I think you are probably better off when the XD. I will say however that I have run 200 rounds through my First Edition PPS and have yet to have a problem. It also shot a lot better than I was expecting it to.

The PPS is intriguing, but given Walthers track record, I'd wait until bugs are found and worked out on someone else time and dime.

Now to really throw a wrench into things, If your worried about resale, stay far away from an XD. If not, they are a decent pistol at a good price.

Sixto, you are right. The market is flooded w/XDs and I agree with you, they are not known for their resale value.

I have both and agree with everyone so far. I was willing to take a little risk because circumstances allowed me too. CAUTIONARY STATEMENT - If you only have one carry pistol, you can't take a risk with a weapon that hasn't proven its reliability.

You should probably buy the XD now and if you still want a PPS later you can get it.

My two tone XD sub 9 had been great for me but I had rented one at the local range and it fit me better than a sub glock. But I have been thinking about getting a PPS since it is slightly lighter and a third of an XD thinner. However I can't imagine it could be more reliable or easy to field strip. XD 45 and 9 would be good choice for armed forces.

Concealment has been tough now that I can't wear a jacket so I've given up on all except pocket carry with keltec P3AT. Don't want to flash anyone. but it sure would be nice carrying a 9.

Any thoughts on Lasermax 4 the subcompact and crimsontrace for the keltec?

The XD is an awesome gun, probably close to 1000 rounds through it now without one problem at all. Right out of the box it went bang each trigger pull. I don't think you'll be disappointed with one at all.

I went with the XD9sc and haven't looked back. It's a great weapon for the price.

I've shot both, but own the PPS. I'd go with the PPS. It would be just so much easier to conceal.

Both are good guns, yet I voted for the Walther as it would be the easiest of the two to conceal. Walther SEEMS to have worked out any bugs and I would definitely stay away from any used ones you might find out there.

ok, I own an xd9sc, while my father-in-law owns the walther pps. The trigger on the xd is better, as well as round capacity. The walther conceals better and has better sights. The xd has better accessories, including sights, holsters, internals etc. If it were me, I'd go xd, upgrade the sights and get a great holster for the same money you'd put into the PPS. Also, the pps tends to eject shells straight up which causes hot brass to come straight down, which when going into ones shirt is rather uncomfortable.
