    1911 in .40 S&W

I'm considering a new 1911 in .40 S&W in a 4" barrel. I know there are some out there. Looks like mostly Wilson from what I can tell. I was pointed to Kimber, but their web site does not indicate they carry such a creature.

Does anyone know how many options I have for one of these? And, does anyone have experience with such a creature?

By the way, I have several 1911's in .45 and love them. 3" and 5".

Just want to compare a .40 in this type of pistol.

    Thanks.

Kimber does, or at least DID, make them. It might be an option now that they've hidden somewhere else on their website. I'm pretty sure Para also makes a few models. You might want to email the companies and ask about it.

I think Kimber did make some 1911s in .40 s&w, but is only making 9mm and .38 super in addition to .45 acp. I'm thinking about getting a .38 super which is more powerful than .40 s&w or 9mm (unfortunately, there are no "bargain" packs of ammo in 38 super, so practicing would be pricey with it).

Kimber was advertising something called the "KPD" in .40 s&w, but they seem to have dropped it (I don't know that they ever even shipped any). It was not a 1911 though, it looked like it was designed to compete with Glock, M&P and XD.

Check out the Les Baer built with a Caspian frame. It holds 18 rounds in a double stack mag plus one in the pipe.

I have a 3" kimber in 40 cal. It is the SS in the picture. as you can see i like the 3" 1911. The 40cal is a nice add to the 45 & 9mm

    STI

The Texas 1911 manufacturer STI offers .40 caliber in a number of their products, such as this Ranger II model shown below. Here is a link to their website:

I had two Kimbers in .40, you couldn't give me a free one.

    Both of them were crap.

I should have kept my Kimber 45s and not bought the .40s

The Springfield EMP is chambered in 9mm or .40, that would be my first choice for a 9mm or .40 1911.

After that it would go to the above mentioned STIs, they have a few models in .40.

I shot my cousin's .40 Kimber Pro today, and while it's not half as bad as the CDP Pro I had in .40, it still had some issues. One bad stove pipe, and the slide wouldn't lock on empty about 80% of the time.

So, I've seen nothing in here about Wilson. They're the only one that I see has what looks like a true 1911 in a 4" and .40 caliber.

I know they're pricey, but does anyone have experience with one of theirs in 40 S&W?

I can't see spending the money on a Wilson and NOT getting it in .45 acp.

I have a daughter that has had excellent results with that caliber in a Glock 23. However, she really likes the 1911 style, and I'm very partial to it.

I would like to see if combining the 2 would make a good carry gun for her.

That's why I'm looking for people with experience specifically to this combination. I believe a 5" is too big for her to carry, and she does not control the 3" .45 as well as she does the G23.

    ahh Gotcha.

Has she tried a 9mm 1911? The recoil is even less and they are a lot more plenitful. Ammo is cheaper and good 9mm HP ammo is, IMHO, just as effective for SD as .40

I've never been a fan of 9MM, so had not considered. Since she's had good luck with the .40, thought I'd try that.

Hard to believe no one out here has experience with that combo.
