    Colt Officers Model Upgrade

Many of you with officers models may already be aware of this, but I thought I would share this non-the-less. There is supposedly a flaw in the recoil plug of the OM and has a tendancy to shear off and send the recoil spring and plug down range. For a carry gun this is unacceptable. Although I have never seen this happen others swear to it. I was leary but thought I would try the modified retro kit from Para. It was really easy to modify. There are 2 ears that need to ground off the plug and thats it. I reblued the part and assembled it. There is no reduction in slide travel and there are NO modification required to the slide. If need be, it can be switched back to original in a matter of seconds. I havent shot it yet, but the install was very simple. It now has a recoil system like the Defender. I though I would share this with you guys. It was helpful to me because I carry my OM alot in the winter and wanted to make sure I didnt have a catostrophic failure. This is NOT my modification. I saw a post where someone did this over on 1911.org, and thought I would give it a try. Kevin.

Question, does this mod apply only to Para’s or is it for all 3 inch 1911’s?

    Colt Officer's .45 ACP's are a 3.5" barrel.

I would have liked to see the part with the "ears" on it to start with to determine how much had to be ground off to make it work.

I'm having trouble figuring out why the bright one with a bull barrel has a barrel bushing??????
And the brushed stainless one does not have a barrel bushing????

Im sorry, I should have taken a picture of the plug before I ground the ears off. But honestly, it took about 90 sec with a dremel, then another min. with a small file to do the finish work. If I can do it than anybody can do it

The last picture is for comparison to my Defender. The one on the right is the OM that I modified, and the one on the left is my stock Defender.

No, there are no tools needed for the take-down.

It was originally designed for the Para as a retro fit to fix the problem of the weak original recoil plug. But a fellow named "Flame Red" took the initiative and modified it to work with the OM Colt. Kudos to Flame!!
