    Well...

    Pros:
Faster reloads (with a nicely beveled mag well).
Heavier butt-end tends to help with recoil management.
    Looks cool.

    Cons:
    Adds weight, makes gun heavier.
Can hinder concealment depending on the type of holster you use and where on your body you wear it.

I wouldn't do it on a carry gun. Competition/range guns, sure. Just my inflation-adjusted two cents.

    Peace,
    Pete Zaria.

    Agree with Pete

I wouldn't bother with a magwell on a Colt Defender for the reasons Pete gave. The whole point of a Colt Defender is to have a very small and concealable gun. Why make it bigger and longer in the grip area, which is the part that tends to print on your cover garment? How often will you have to do a speed reload on a small defensive gun?

I think this 1911 "upgrade" stems from the "gun games" players and does nothing for personal self defense.

Unless of course one prepares for some speed reload or some such tacti-cool training maneuver.

I tend to agree with the others. Most upgrades added are not really needed, heck look at the AR crowd. You can get everything but a tactical blender for those guns.

Pete is correct as already mentioned. However, I would install it on my EDC weapon since you don't know where you may need to reload, and reload quickly.

No, it's not a bad idea. But, you gotta be selective. Certainly, a standard configuration will extend the grip slightly. If anyone here can tell there's a weight difference, in a double-blind comparrison, you have "Princess and the Pea"-like senses. ;)

The alternative-of-choice, IMO, would be the Heinie or Morris magwell. They can be either drilled and tapped (Heinie), or welded/soldered (Morris) and add no length to the grip.

I really like a magwell, for both gaming and carry. If you like them too, don't be dissuaded.
