There is just something about that name ... KIMBER! But you are right, either way you can't go wrong.

Wow! Thanks for asking.. I have both of these guns. They are almost identical in everyway. The quality is the same for both.. The grips on the Kimber are about 1/4 larger. Side by side. just a beautiful pair. Both a Custom Shop Gun. About the same price. Both have night sights.
I almost thought they were made by the same factory... actually that close.

Shooting these guns could not be better. I have shot Winchester Silver Tips.. Gold Dot Short Barrel in both and Gold Dot 200 gr +P in the Kimber w/o a problem of any kind. Slow or fast they will take it.

For carry. naturally the EMP is a bit easier to control with more ammo. The .45 speaks for itself.

There is a big difference in what is shipped with each.. 2 extra mags, belt carry for extra mags. and holster. with the EMP

The Kimber is only shipped with the 1911 mag. I purchased a Wilson Combat for the Kimber.

    Two of my absolute favorites!!!!

    Get the Kimber

Kimber ultra sized guns are great. Plus, as opposed to the EMP (another good gun), you get .45 ACP or 9mm (vice 9mm for the EMP). Note that the difference in recoil btw the .45 and 9mm ultra sized guns is negligable and both are very accurate. Last the Kimber TacPro mags are great and solved feed issues in my Kimber and Springfield and my son's Sig 1911.

I love my Springfield Loaded Champion so I voted for the EMP. If I went for a mini 1911, I'd go with the 9mm.

Have handled and shot both thanks to a bro that has more guns than sense. (don't you love friends like that) When I can get the $$$ together, I'm going after the EMP. Both are fantastic shooters and and capable of more accuracy than many shooters. I just prefer the 9mm over the 45acp and have been moving to consolidate my weapons.
Bottom line is that you can't go wrong with either weapon. It will boil down to which one YOU shoot better with.

I went ahead and ordered the Springfield EMP in 9mm. I thought more of Kimber, but I have never had one. They are all a pretty line of guns though.

No Plus P? This is intended to be solely used for a carry pistol, as more compact that my XD45. I'll have to get a standard load SD round (HST, Talon, Speer Gold Dots, or are they all +P?)

I can shoot the XD very well. Not sure if it is the XD or me? I am not buying a 9MM because I cannot shoot a 45. I am getting it for the compactness to carry much easier. In addition, I can shoot MUCH more with a 9, then a .45. That will make me much better. I don't buy into the 45 is better, or 40 is better hooplah. If you can unload a magazine of HP's to BG COM in 9mm, it'll ruin their day.

Wouldnt that be nice? In an ideal world, there would be no price tags!

I voted EMP, but then again I might be a little prejudiced.

What do the owners of the EMP suggest for a carry round? Someone earlier posted no +p ammo? Therefore no +p+. Leaves just standard rounds? Thinking the Ranger T (RA9TA) but think they are +p.
