Get pregnant, start having vicious morning sickness and not wanting to carry anything larger than a paper clip and still wanting to be armed with a reliable, reasonably calibered firearm that could protect baby and me.
Yeah, that was a good reason.

because I need something to hone my gunsmith skills on
Because I would hate to see:
1. My credit card company go belly up
2. Any gunshop go belly up
3. Money actually accumulate in my savings (less savings=more toys)
Because once you pop, you can't stop!
No, but really its addictive! I just bought my first handgun recently, and after shooting it a few times I really must admit, I find myself browsing already for the next one..
Because I want it. Please honey.

Inability to find a suitable used one, primarily.Post your best reasons to buy a new gun
I don't purchase guns to shoot for pleasure, nor purchase for investment. I am going through a practical review of various platforms and models, with the goal of coming to a decision on a handful that will provide an effective and reliable defensive role. Most have been purchased used, though several have been new.
I focus on those that can fill that role, first and foremost. During the eval, I discard (sell) most of them. I've ended up with some useful and effective options: CZ P-01 9mm, Ruger PC-9 9mm, Marlin 1894P .44mag lever-action, Marlin 1894CP .357mag lever-action. Still reviewing ...

I liked the color - blue. My wife was out of town. I had the money. I NEEDED a new one. It fit my pocket. It was a new model. I liked the trigger pull. The sights we great. It had 2 mags. My old one may break some day. I bought a new car and I needed a new gun for it. I thought it was pretty. I wanted it.
I HAVE USED ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!!!!
