    Smile Sights for 1911 question

I'm going soon to drop off my 1911 to have new sights put on. It currently has the GI style sights and I am just wanting a better set compared to the small iron sights that came with it.

Just to get a lot of folks opinions on sights, should I go ahead and get the night sights or stick with plain white 3 dot sights.

This pistol is used for concealed carry, home, car protection and I was thinking the night sights may come in very handy in low light. I shoot it at the range for practice regularly but, self defense is its purpose.

Any opinions one way or the other ????

Please let me know. I just want some sights better than the small iron GI sights.

    Thanks everyone !!!!

How much are you looking to spend? Lots of different makers out there. I've carried a 1911 for almost 30 years, I'd have nights sights put on it, I prefer the single night sight up front and the rear sight plain black.

If cost is a concern, Id just put a tritium lamp up front and have the rear notch widened on what you've got. If you want to change the rear to something better, you'll have to have the slide cut for the sight you want. If you're willing to do that, I really like the 10-8 rear sight, with either a gold bead, or tritium insert up front. The 10-8 comes in three widths; .125, .140 and .156. The .140 is very fast and my personal favorite. If you have yours widened, I recommend .135; seems to be the best of both worlds. Whatever you choose, like OD said, leave the rear plain.

I prefer a tritium front only also. Those three dancing dots get confusing to me!

Another vote for single front, although I do prefer the straight 8 variety, then again, that's what my current carry 1911 came with and I saw no need to change.

Another option for him Ping, would be the Yo-Bo Retro (now HEIRLOOM PRECISION, LLC.), inexpensive, it requires no modification to the pistol, has the .140" sight notch and retains the classic lines of the gun.
