DA/SA provides the safety free property you are looking for.

Check out something similar to an S&W or Walther with the AS trigger (I think that is the one you want; DA/SA).

If Sig has similar models go for the Sig. I think there is a promotion on now for the 239. Saw the ad in Concealed Carry.

MP9 or 40 compact. Very low recoil guns but sized between a G19 and G26. I like and use my MP40 compact as a primary gun.

SIG 239 or G26; I can't think of any reason to choose any other gun. Maybe the smallest SW M&P if the grip interchangeability is desirable.

    DA/SA guns don't necessarily have safeties...SIG DA/SAs sure don't.

    DAO and no safety

I don't have any problems with safeties or the lack of in DAO guns like the Glock. I often recommend Glocks as the most reliable and trouble free guns and well worth the money.
But, I don't particularly like them. I've carried a G19 for many years and I do use the trigger block safety device. Just as I automatically correctly operate the safety on my Colt Gold Cup and my Browning P-35, I punch the trigger block out with my trigger finger as I draw.
It's no problem. I think anyone who carries a Glock and has ever had an uncomfortable thought about the lack of a safety should use one. They're cheap and they work and they don't cause any problem.
But again that's just an old guy's opinion. (Been shooting handguns for nearly 60 years.

Can't say enough about kahr, I have a P9, MK9 and someday, I'm going to get a K9 for range work and because it's the most comfortable gun I've ever held.

No safeties, mag disconnects, or anything else and the triggers on mine (DAO) are fantastic! they're also my most accurate and reliable guns.
