My Birthday 1911
In joint celebration of my 42nd b-day and the Heller opinion from SCOTUS, I purchased my first (assumes it won't be last) 1911 type pistol today.
Picked up a Taurus PT1911 stainless with the Walnut grips at Cabela's for $715 out the door. Camera batteries are dead. Pics and a range report to follow.
Any special emphasis on cleaning, maintenance, etc. that 1911 newbie should be mindful of?
Thanks all.

Be extra careful when reassembling your pistol, particularly when reinserting the slide stop, be gentle, and don't scratch the frame or slide.

A 1911 is like Lays potato chips; nobody can have just one!!! Congrats on the purchase and happy birthday.

Happy birthday, try not to lose your barrel bushing, or get the half moon scrape from the slide stop.

for all the knowledge you will ever need on maintenance/upgrades/tinkering on a 1911 visit forum.m1911.org - pay special attention to the posts by 1911Tuner.
Gratz on the new pistol (one of the best ever designed IMO) and Happy Birthday man.

Thanks all. If anyone is in the market, the Cabela's in Maine has a small, stainless Para Ord. .45 in great shape for $524. w/ a Galco Summer Comfort 2 included.

I will second that. When I first got my ultra carry, the slide stop was very tight fitting and difficult to get back on. As a result, I did scratch the frame a bit. No big deal, but wish that I had been a bit more careful, so heed JD's advice.
