    1911 newbie questions

New to the whole 1911 thing. 2 quick questions:

    1. Can you dry fire a 1911 as you would a striker fired gun?

    2. During reassembly, is there a trick to keeping the barrel link lined up while getting the slide stop reinserted?

    Thanks folks.
When in doubt, just ask yourself, "What would Theodore Roosevelt do?"

Every society is 3 missed meals away from anarchy.

    1. Yes, you can dry fire modern 1911s with no worry of damaging them.

    2. You don't want your link up, you want it down (depending on which way you are holding your gun upon reassembly). If you are having trouble getting the link to stay in place and holding the gun upside down, then turn it right side up and let gravity do most of the work for you. You should get the slide stop to pass right through the link.

She has a habbit of doing that.
It is surely true that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. Nor can you make them grateful for your efforts.
