    Have S&W Model 12 question

I am not a revolver guy so my experience is limited. I recently inherited a S&W model 12 ( not a 12-1, 12-2 ...... no dashes ) from my late Uncle who carried the weapon as a back up when he worked for the Pittsburgh PD. It is my understanding that this revolver is an " old timer " in regards to production date. Can anyone tell me if you think .38 spl +P loads would be acceptable in this revolver. I searched the site but no hits. Thanks

I'm sorry to hear of your uncle's passing.

My not-very-well-informed guess would be no, but you will receive a much more definitive answer here: smith-wessonforum.com- dedicated to Smith&Wesson firearms.

Thank you sir, I shot my first firearm with him, he served as a Green Beret sniper in Vietnam. He will be sorely missed. I will try the forum

The Model 12 Airweight Military & Police revolver was produced from 1957 to 1962.

This revolver is NOT rated for +P ammo!

I love my Model 12 but I don't shoot it with +P. Another shooter used one last weekend at the local IDPA match and had to switch guns midway because it was starting to act up. IDPA legal .38 Special loads are low end +p rounds.
