    DW Bobtail Commander

I'm looking at possibly buying one. Like the look and feel of it. Just wondering if anyone uses one for EDC and general impression on them.

I built a bobtail Commander in 10mm. I really like it and am working the bugs out of it. I haven't carried it yet, though

I do not own a DW Bobtail but I do own a Dan Wesson Pointman 7. Its basically a semi-custom 1911 and its one of the best values in a quality 1911 platform avalible today. I have handled and shot the DW Bobtail and I was very impressed with the pistol and all those I know that own one love them. The list of features on these pistols is impressive for the money

Round top slide with fixed 3 dot tritium night sights
∑ Forged, one piece match grade barrel and bushing.
∑ Ed Brown Bobtail mainspring housing
∑ 20 LPI checkered front strap
∑ Hand polished flat surfaces with contrasting bead blasted rounds
    ∑ Beveled magwell
∑ All sharp edges dehorned by hand
∑ Lowered and flared ejection port
∑ Ed Brown memory groove grip safety
    ∑ Ed Brown slide stop
    ∑ Tactical, extended thumb safety
    ∑ Commander style match hammer
    ∑ Match grade sear
∑ Aluminum trigger with stainless bow
    ∑ Extended serrated magazine catch
    ∑ Wolff springs used exclusively
    ∑ Diamond checkered coco-bolo grips
    ∑ Tuned, machined, internal extractor
    ∑ 34 ounces unloaded
When I leave the home port:
S&W 642 Airweight, Ruger SP 101, Colt Detective Spec., CZ RAMI, Kahr PM9, Kahr CW40, S&W Model 10-7, Glock 30, 19, and 26, Browning Hi Power, CZ82, Colt Commander, Dan Wesson PM7, Ruger LCP

I love the Dan Wesson Bobtail Commander! I do not own one but it in the list of guns I want to acquire!

Please, if you do get it, be sure to post a range report for us.

I'm waiting on a TT Gunleather holster for my Bobtail. Once that arrives, it will become my EDC.

It's an outstanding pistol! I had to change the safety out for an ambi version as I'm a lefty. I also changed out the mainspring housing for a checkered version and put on a set of Warthog grips ... absolutely perfect!

They look nice. I'm looking for a $1Kish or less 10mm 1911 and the CBOB and Kimber Eclipse Custom II (used) are the frontrunners. The DW sure offers a lot of gun for the money. I like the 4.25" barrel and the fact that it already has the bobtail over the Kimber.

+1 To everyone here that wants one. :)
I havenít heard any of the journalists who volunteered to be waterboarded asking to have their fingernails wrenched out with pliers, or electrodes attached to their genitals.

I just figured I would help stir the pot a little bit and post a pic

Honestly, these things (the complete stable of Dan Wessons)are probably the absolute BEST band-for-the-buck 1911's on the market today. For about $1,000 out-the-door, you get a true semi-custom 1911 that will function as designed as long as you abide by some rules.

They are tighter than a bank vault when brand new, so you have to liberally lubricate until broken in. Mine had some slight machining marks on the frame rails, and I followed the advice found around the 'net to LIGHTLY polish off the high points before I even fired one round down the tube. I'm confident doing this helped mine remain trouble-free through the break in process. There are some who did not follow this advice - nor did they properly lube - and ended up with a slide and frame that locked up mid-cycle.

What kind of grips are those & where do you get them? Nice! They will be added to my wish list along with the CBOB.

It has been my EDC for the last 2 years - love it!!! Easy to carry, high quality and a great value. I have only had one ammo related issue - had a batch of Factory Reloads that seemed a touch out of spec - the DW would not go into battery. It has never had an issue with any factory ammo...even shot a bunch of wolf with no issues.

Buy one - you will NOT be sorry
