I want a compact 45...Options?
I do NOT want a 1911, had 1 and was just not comfortable with it. I like the Kahr PM45 but the price tag is too high. I already have a PM9. Glock maybe? I want something that is DA on the first round. Whats out there that dont cost an arm and a leg to buy?

I have an XD 45 Compact and love it. I like it better than the Glock. Haven't shot the M&P yet, also heard it was a fine weapon...i can however vouch for the XD compact 45...awesome gun. over 3000 rounds down range and not a single FTF with all types of ammo thru it...I would and do bet my life on it..

I have to second the vote for the XD45. Mine has been a great performer with no problems at all.

Don't have one, but check out the Bersa Thunder 45 UltraCompact. Bersa's got a fast-growing reputation and they're super affordable. Bud's has 'em (Bersa Pistols, licensed by Walther) and you can find some good opinions at BersaTalk (:: Bersa Talk ::).
Good luck.

Smith & Wesson 457. They usually go for under $400 on Gunbroker, and are very compact and reliable. Double action first shot, single action thereafter. Easy to carry.
Or, if you like polymer, maybe a Kahr CW45, $400 - $430 brand new on Gunbroker.

XD, Glock, M&P, Taurus, and the Kahr you mentioned earlier. Also some wheelies in .45 that would fit into the compact catagory. Don't shy away from used pieces either. I've found some great deals on used guns before and that would certainly help if you're trying to get in under the salary cap! :)

+1 on the 457. Also try a 4513, or if you like a little more weight, the 4516.
Great compact 45's. Mine have been accurate and reliable. Regards 18DAI.

I've got the 5" Tactical. Great gun.....except for that loooooooong trigger.
I think George Hill described it best: "more creep than Christopher Walken."
Well, that, and its allergy to 200gr LSWCs...

May I suggest... Welcome to Springer Precision
He makes a semi drop-in trigger kit that does wonders. I'm working on a write up for it to share and I can't recommend it enough.
Factory parts are replaced so you can always put the gun back to stock, and the only fitting is some filing/sanding on the after-market trigger bar to fine-tune your reset.
I don't know about the digestion issue though...

I also have the XD 45 compact. It cost me $500 and comes with a 10 and 13 round mag. With the 10 rd mag it is virtually the same size as the Glock 19. . Go handle one and see how it feels. It is also a very reliable gun. Just my $.02.

I have a Bersa 45. I love it so much.... hold on ... that I retired my Officers 1911 to the safe. I now carry the Bersa 45. It is very accurate and holds one more round. Now before the 1911 crowd starts in on me, please note that I have three 1911's and I love them too. I just like the way the Bersa fits my hand and shoots.
