Magazine rattles
I just bought a 2nd mag for my glock 19. When I have 14 in the mag it makes a rattling noise. Your proably asking why I dont put 15 in there.....well, I tried and I just can't seem to squeeze it in there. Does anyone know why it would make that rattling noise?

I dont own Glocks, but isnt that a double stack mag? If so, that is pretty common with double stackers. It only takes one round to not have enough pressure on it to keep it from rattling. My XD45acp does it and so does a lot of other owners of double stack mags.

It's normal. It just means that all the rounds are not completely compressed by the spring and follower. It has to do with the shape of the follower, and how the rounds settle in the double stack formation. That sound is actually a round rattling back and forth. If you actually load 15, or even take one out, it should stop... not that it matters, because that will not impede function or reliability. A few taps to the bottom of the mag may help, but even if it does not, there is nothing to worry about. As far as you not being able to load the last round, just leave it loaded for a few days with 14 rounds, and that'll compress the spring enough such that you'll be able to load the last round.

I've got a dozen CZ P-01 factory magazines in which several allow the bullets to rattle, somewhat. Uncertain what allows that. Replacing springs and followers don't change it. Yet, the mag bodies have no obvious differences in shape, size, and the operation of all mags is for all intents and purposes identical. Unknown cause, in my case.

My CZ 9mm rattles too, fully loaded with 10 (we're only allowed 10 here in NY), but not with 9. Seems as though it's pretty normal occurance.

My G19 does the same thing. I just usually tap the bottom of the mag sharply after chambering my carry round. Are you carrying this with an empty chamber? Just asking.

XD9 did the same thing (sold it) but it didn't affect function at all. Go ahead and put that 15th round in there, one day you might be thankful you did.

229R does the same thing with some mags. Even after the mag slap maneuver.

Its common and Sig mags are the worst. It is funny, if you down load the magazine and reload it sometimes it will stop.

my glock magazines don't rattle, but my 1911 ones sure do! it's VERY annoying to say the least.
with the glock mags, i would just try tapping them firmly with the heel of your hand after they're completely loaded. that works with all of my double-stack mags.

I've encoutered the same rattling with all my handguns at one point or another. Revolvers are naturally safe from this.
