Help me with my first 1911
hey all it's been a while since i have posted here, but I am back and need some advise. My grandpa ran into a friend at the range and heard he is selling a kimber 1911 for $300.00
The thing is I am not sure what model it is, all i know is it's blued and the guy has had it for five years and hasn't shot it much. I have always wanted a 1911 and this is one I can finally afford on my limited budget.....
So, does the deal sound good? anything I need to look for or any problems with a older kimbers i need to be aware about?
Thanks for the help

It is a smoking deal. But I'd go in to it with the idea that something may be wrong with it. That said, all 1911's are parts and pieces. Everything can be upgraded very easily. Get it.

I would agree. Go for it!

I meet the guy at 6:00 tonight to look at and most likely take her home. If i do buy it I am planing on taking to a gun smith to put new springs in it.... anything else i should replace on a slightly older model? I would like to make this my accurate target / IPDA gun in the future.

If it has an external extractor you should have it tuned.

Make sure it feeds and extracts/ejects properly, and see if there is any evidence of a Dremel jockey attacking the feed ramp.
