    What would you get?

I have some extra money and really want a gun I can beat up and use for the academy. I am favoring the Sig because of the price. What would you guys go with? Here are the prices.

    Sig 225 $380

    Springfield XD $350

    Taurus 24/7 9ss $400

Personally...The Sig. But only because the Sig fits my hand and the XD didn't feel very comfy to me. But the 225 is a single stack, so less rounds than the XD. I will not have a Taurus auto, seen too many people have problems with them.

Just based on the names? Go for the XD. I've got a pair of 'em - 9mm and .45 both in Service size. The 9 was the first gun I bought myself. I've got over 13,000 rounds through it, and no complaints. The only part I've had to replace is a mag spring.

Now, on the practical side, I think the Sig and the XD are both better than the Taurus. Buy whichever of the two fits your hand the best. 'Course another consideration is action and capacity. The XD will hold more rounds, and is a striker fired gun-even trigger pull for every shot. I personally don't like the DA/SA triggers. In the end, you'll be happy with either.

For taking abuse and keepin' on keepin' on, no question...the XD.

I'd go with the SIG also....only because you don't have a Glock listed.

    What Gun?

I had a Sig 225 for awhile. Sho real well with FMJ but wouln't feed any kind of hollow point. At least the dozen or so brands I tried. Get a Glock 19. About the same size as the P225 and the most trouble free reliable gun on the market. But the S&W M&P and the XD are good too.

This is the key portion of your post... the Sig 225 is a poor choice for the academy; Its rather small, low capacity and good luck finding an acceptable holster for it. It pains me to say that because I love all Sigs. If it were not for the quoted part of your post, I'd be telling you to buy 225 without a doubt.

The Taurus will probably not be approved by the academy, and even if it is, you are asking for a headache.

    That leaves the XD.

I just bought a sig 225 P6 for 269.95 from aim arms,it's hard to find extra factory mags for them and I haven't received mine yet due to shipping screwup but I have heard some of them only like FMJ ammo

I am a Glock LOVER...but of those, the XD gets my vote too. Higher capacity less reloads in tactical setting/training, more reliable, less likely to stop with HP ammo too. as the p225 tends to do from what i hear.
