What distance do you practice at?

Just curious what distance you primarily practice at during your visit to the range shooting your handgun. I'm interested to see what distances everyone is preparing themselves for. Personally, I shoot at 15yds, because that is the shortest that my range has. Occassionally I'll try the 25yrd range, but that is usually at the end of the day, when I want to see if I can hit it or not. I know it's only 10 yards, but the difference between 15yds and 25yds is HUGE in my experience.

Note, the poll allows multiple selections so you can vote for the ranges you most commonly shoot at.

I shoot at a fifty foot range (16.67 yards) and do my best to keep it on that end of the range.

I generally practice at about 15 yards, anything closer and I know I'll nail it. I want to be ready for the across the house scenarios and not have to get within that distance if I can help it.

    practice distance

I generally shoot closer to 9 feet than 21 feet. I'm more interested in being able to get off two to four rapid shots within about a four inch circle than being able to hit a bullseye at twenty feet or more. I think the ten feet or less thing is more realistic for self defense.

Not a fair poll question. It depends on whether I'm practicing with a pistol or a rifle. I usually practice pistol from 7-25 yards, and long guns up to 100 yards.

I generally practice at 3 to 7 yards with a pistol, I figure if I do have to use my weapon it will be up close and personal.

when using the beamhit: 3, 5 and 7 yards

when at the range: 7 yards and sometimes 15 yards. An occasional shot @ 25 yards to see if I can still ring the steel plate hangers.

I had to pick 7 since it's closer to 10 than 15. Been known to do 5, 7, 10, and 15. I'll go for the long shot 25yd every once in a while just for kicks.

I work from 15 to 3 yards each session. I also practice firing from retention, so I guess that is contact too.

    9 feet through about 21.

I'll still do a little at 45 feet, but that is about it.

I figure if I ever have to use the thing, it will be at 8 inches to 5 or 6 feet. Possibly 30 feet max.

From 3 to 25 yards - those are the distances on my qual course, so that's where I spend most of my time. Obviously, there are different tactical considerations as the ranges change, but I need to be able to make good, solid, fast hits at all those distances.
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

I usually shoot about 70% at 10 yards, which is 30 feet about the longest distance in my house, and I can double tap a paper plate all day long at that range, anything closer shrinks the groups

I do most of my practice at 10 yards. Each session I shoot at 7, 10, 15 and sometimes 5. I sometimes also shoot at 3 yards and 5 yards without raising the gun to see the sights.
