    Best 1911 UNDER $900?

I don't mind full size, but don't like anything smaller than a 4'' barrel. This is going to be a part time carry with my G23 and my snubbie. If you only had $900 what 1911 would you buy for carry?

    Dan Wesson CBOB.

    ...it's on my short list.

Trying to decide between it and a more 'practical' handgun like a Glock or Sig.

If I was going to buy a different 1911 it would probably be a Springfield Loaded.

I love my Springer Loaded... it's quite a bit of bang for the buck. Plus you'll have enough left over for a decent holster and some extra mags/gear.

On top of that Springfield's customer service is top notch. They'll take care of you for life.

    I'd buy another Kimber Compact.

+1 I just picked one (10mm) up used in excellent condition. They can easily be found for around $900.

Dan Wesson CBOB, the bobtail really is a nice option, and you get it right out of the box with no waiting on smith work.

Springfield Loaded Champ 4", you can't go wrong with a good Springer, and some like the 4" better for carry.

Springfield Loaded 5", yeah it's a little bit longer, but the 5" 1911 is still my most preferred carry gun, if I had $900 it would really be a toss up on the Dan Wesson CBOB, or trying to find a used Springfield TRP.

I would buy a Springfield mil-spec and send it off to a smith for new sights, trigger work, a beaver-tail grip safety, and a reliability package. That way later on, if you want, you can add whatever bells and whistles (front-strap texturing, high cut grip, and so on) that you may want.

    My 2 cents

Springfield Loaded for me , With a forged frame and slide to start with. This is just about as close to a custom gun as you can get with out actually getting one. It has many of the parts (beavertail, ambi safety, Ect) you may wish to add later already installed. The gun has been a base platform of preformance 45s for many years. Like all 1911 based guns, parts for this platform are cheap and avalible. No gun owner should be without at least one.

You could always get the one with the rampant horse on the slide... ie. Colt Lightweight Commander. Those CBOB's are nice, but heavy as a block of lead.

Use the extra $100 for a carry bevel job.

While I like the 1911 platform and own a couple I'm afraid I'd spend my money on an HK in .45ACP. Either a USP Compact, or the new HK45. Similar to the 1911 in function, but you can carry as DA/SA, or cocked and locked and it's a lighter weapon. Another plus is that they tend to perform very well right out of the box. JMHO

I like my SA Champ loaded . I find the 4" size easy for CCW. A Kimber would be just as good IMO , or as JD said a used Dan Wesson.
